PlayStation 3 firmware 4.1 update out now

The PS3's firmware was updated to 4.1 which means some of the changes Sony has been talking about will now take effect.

You can now set the system in the settings to automatically acquire the current date/time when you sign in to PlayStation Network
The Internet Browser was updated and will now display previously incompatible sites.
Finally the latest update changes your PlayStation Network account to the new Sony Entertainment Network Account naming.

Kingdom Hearts 3D Japanese boxart revealed

To receive Arceus go to the Pokémon Global Link, log in, and use this password ARCEUSVOTE on the Promotions section. After that simply use Game Sync to bring it to your Pokemon Black or White game. Since this is only available for a limited time get while you can.

"We are planning to showcase the final format and discuss the details at E3 2012, which will be held in Los Angeles in the United States in June this year," said Iwata.

It looks like the Wii U might be different by the time E3 rolls around. And if your wondering when the Wii U might launch?

"Today, I’d like to confirm that we will launch the Wii U in Japan, the U.S., Europe and Australia in time for the year-end sales season."

He also announced a new Mario game.

"Although there is no logo here, we are planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year."

So a new 2D Mario game coming to the 3DS, I wonder if it will be like New Super Mario Bros or maybe a cartoon style like Wario Land: Shake It.

Nintendo reveals Nintendo Network, Wii U controller to include NFC and personal accounts

Nintendo has dropped a bunch of new info on the Wii U and the Nintendo Network at a recent investor meeting. The Nintendo Network will be their network platform that will cover the 3DS and the Wii U. It will allow for DLC and full game downloads (if they go in that direction) and will be much more fully featured than the Nintendo WiFi Connection that is currently used by the DS and the Wii.

Nintendo announced that the Wii U will have personal accounts for when there's multiple family members using a single console and that the Wii U controller will also include Near Field Communications.

"By installing this functionality, it will become possible to create cards and figurines that can electronically read and write data via noncontact NFC and to expand the new play format in the video game world. Adoption of this functionality will enable various other possibilities such as using it as a means of making micropayments" said Iwata.

They could use this feature like Skylanders, were you can buy an actual toy of a character and import it into your game through NFC, but instead apply it to Pokemon. Iwata also mentions cards so you can already imagine what kind of crazy stuff you can do to Pokemon/Yugioh/Magic cards.

Mass Effect 3 demo arrives February 14

Bioware is set to release the demo to their much anticipated game Mass Effect 3 on Feb. 14. The demo will give players a taste of the campaign as well as the new co-operative multiplayer mode.

“We are excited to be able to give gamers an expansive demo that will put them right on the front lines of this all-out galactic war. The entire scale of the game is bigger than anything we’ve ever done. With its intense action, deep customization and raw emotional power, Mass Effect 3 will deliver a spectacular action RPG experience to fans of the series and newcomers alike,” said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series.

Mass Effect 3 launches on March 6, 2012.

3DS demos hitting the North American eShop starting tomorrow [update: Europe too]

Nintendo had said that demos would be arriving on the 3DS soon and Japan already has had them since December. Tomorrow the first 3DS demo will hit the North American eShop and it will be for Resident Evil: Revelations.

It will be followed by a demo for Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games which will be available on January 26. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D and Rayman Origins will arrive on the eShop soon after.

Xenoblade Chronicles US Trailer

Yes you read that title correctly, Xenoblade Chronicles is indeed coming to the US. After Europe and Japan both saw the release of this game in their regions gamers wondered what Nintendo of America was thinking by not bringing this title over. It was especially difficult to understand since Xenoblade had already been translated to English and was receiving pretty good scores.

Well Nintendo has finally announced that Xenoblade Chronicles will be released in April 2012 and sold exclusively through GameStop and Nintendo's website. Hey it's better than nothing right?

The update for the 3DS has gone live, to update just head over to the settings and click on the update button. One of the new features is the addition of accomplishments (trophies/achievements). Right now it only seems to be for the StreetPass Mii Plaza, it is unknown whether this will expand to all future games. Some of the new features include:

3D Video, and 3D Stop Motion animation videos
QR code functionality will be improved
Transfer game files between Nintendo 3DS systems
New puzzles and extra Find Mii Dungeon
eShop will be expanded as well,You'll soon have access to game demos(for both downloadable games and retail games)
You'll be able to download software while your system is in Sleep Mode
The eShop will also support Download Codes (which will be used primarily for special promotions) and will enable users to save payment information to their system if they so so desire
The update will add a new application to your system's Home Menu:"Nintendo Zone" active when you're at a Nintendo 3DS hotspot location.Provides free access to exclusive content,streaming 3D videos(such as game trailers,tv ads) trivia games, and retail promotions

Preperations on a new Zelda 3DS game already begun, Majora’s Mask remake considered

Now that development on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is finished producer Eiji Aonuma has had more time to talk with the press. Here he revealed that they have already begun preparing a new Zelda game for the 3DS that doesn't necessarily follow the DS versions.

“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS. We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds.”

He also points out that a Majora's Mask remake was also considered but that they didn't want to release a remake one after the other.

“It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.”

Sony to become more strict on PSN game sharing

You know the drill you and four other friends share an account so that you can share each others PSN purchases. Well no more says Sony beginning Nov. 18 PSN licenses can be tied to only two PS3s or two PSPs (purchases before that date will not count).

You will, however, be able to activate and deactivate consoles online.
